Cross-section drawing tool
Build a profile section, drag its dimensions, and get a dimensioned drawing, an interactive 3D render and exact section properties — in metric or imperial, computed straight from the geometry, not estimated. Export either as a high-resolution PNG. Load a real section to start.

Draw it, measure it, render it — from one source of truth
Most cross-section tools stop at a shape. Dimviz treats the section as the single source of truth for everything downstream: the dimensioned drawing, the isometric render and the engineering datasheet are all derived from the same polygon, so they can never disagree. Change the web thickness of an I-beam and the drawing, the render, the area and the weight per metre all update in lock-step.
What it computes
For every section: cross-sectional area A, centroid, second moments of area Ix / Iy, elastic section moduli Sx / Sy, radii of gyration rx / ry, torsion constant J, and mass per metre from the material density. Round sections use closed-form circle formulas; all others use exact polygon integration (Green’s theorem).
What is a cross-section drawing tool?+
It’s a tool that takes the 2-D cross-section of a profile — an I-beam, channel, tube, angle or extrusion — and produces a scaled, dimensioned drawing plus the engineering properties of that section. Dimviz adds a deterministic 2.5D render and a downloadable datasheet from the same geometry.
Does it calculate section properties?+
Yes. Area, centroid, second moments of area (Ix, Iy), section moduli (Sx, Sy), radii of gyration and torsion constant are computed exactly from the section polygon, plus mass per metre from the chosen material density. See the section-property calculator.
Can I export the drawing?+
Yes — export the interactive 3D render and the dimensioned drawing as high-resolution PNG images, ready for a datasheet, a web hero or a catalog. The section figure and the full property table share one source of truth, so the picture and the numbers always agree.
